Here's another fun, hands-on way to teach the genetics concepts of selective breeding and hybridization in your middle school science class! In this selective breeding research project, students work in the marketing department of Selective Breeding and Hybridization, Inc. where they must create an ad campaign to sell their newest lines of hybrid organisms. **Use of this resource does require prior knowledge of selective breeding and hybridization.
Used alone, in pairs, or in small groups, this research project combines science, creativity, and persuasive writing into one fun lesson your students will really enjoy. This project can be completed in 2-3 days depending on the level and quality of work you want your students to put into it and the finished products are perfect for creating bulletin boards or classroom art displays.
Example match-ups are provided, or challenge students to create their own hybrids that are not naturally occurring for a fun extension on this lesson! Create a campaign wall in your classroom and have students "purchase" their favorites!
