Outside your school doors is an assortment of wildlife – mammals, birds, insects, bacteria, mushrooms, grasses – all living in a variety of environmental conditions. Imagine zooming in on a small piece of habitat and diving in to see all that it contains in this population and diversity plot lab!

STUDENTS WILL:
• Establish a plot of land to observe
• Observe biotic and abiotic features of the plot
• Record data on their regarding their observations
• Answer any extension questions
MATERIALS LIST (most items are student supplied):
- 1 meter stick
- 4 paper clips/toothpicks
- 5 meters of string
- Hand lenses
- 1 clear petri dish
- Thermometer
- Cup filled with water
- Pipette
- Forceps/tweezers/probe
- Microscopes (optional)
